This museum is themed around the natural beauty of the Kurobe Gorge. Original music is played in the museum to provide the perfect setting for art appreciation.
The museum creates and exhibits works by seven leading contemporary Japanese painters, Ikuo Hirayama, Hideo Shioide, Souto Fukui, Toshio Tabuchi, Koichi Takeuchi, Yuji Tezuka, and Masaaki Miyamari, all of whom focus on the harsh yet beautiful nature of the area.
Through numerous works featuring the Kurobe Gorge, including Ikuo Hirayama’s “Phantom Falls,” visitors can experience the majestic appearance of Kurobe and the splendor of nature’s workings.
There is also a café where visitors can enjoy coffee brewed with Kurobe’s famous water and handmade waffles. Visitors can spend a relaxing time while admiring the natural scenery.
The Serene Museum of Art is located in the Kurobe City Art Creation Center Serene complex in Unazuki Onsen.
The nickname “Serene” is the name of the moon goddess in Greek mythology. The name “Serene” is derived from the “moon” of Unazuki Onsen and the elegant image of the rounded building.
